Scottish Labour have been branded ‘unelectable for a generation’ as demonstrators gathered in front of the party headquarters in Glasgow in solidarity with the jailed Palestine Action hunger-strikers on Tuesday.
More than 100 activists took part in the protest picket in support of the hunger-strikers charged with offences allegedly carried out on behalf of Palestine Action before the group was banned and designated a terrorist organisation. Some of them used red paint to stamp handprints on to the doors of the Labour office.
The next day the hunger-strikers ended their protest following the news that Elbit Systems UK was denied a vital £2 billion army training contract with the Ministry of Defence – one of their key demands.
Two are in custody over alleged involvement in a break-in at the Israeli-linked defence firm last year. The other was one of several accused of breaking into an RAF base in central England and damaging two aircraft in protest against Britain’s support for Israel. Palestine Action was banned in July, making it a crime to be a member. Thousands have since been arrested for holding signs in support of the group.
